UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Mid 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 17 mm, 4.76 g, 7 h), 'Early Group'. Imitating Marcus Aurelius as Caesar, 138-161. AVRELIVS CAE-SAR A[VG] PII F Head of Marcus Aurelius to right. Rev. TR POT III - COS [II] Bonus Eventus standing right, holding grain ears in her right hand and plate of fruits in her left. Aurum Barbarorum I & II -. Cf. Calicó 1930 (for prototype). With original suspension loop decorated with XXX / XX attached. Numerous bangs and scrapes and the flan somewhat wavy, otherwise, fair.

The poor condition of this piece makes it very difficult to judge whether it is a very good imitation or an official aureus that made it into the Barbaricum. The style is (or was), in any case, excellent.
